Shizuoka University International Exchange Program – Spring 2027
Shizuoka University, Japan, is now accepting nominations from Chiang Mai University students for the International Exchange Program – Spring Semester 2027. The program is open to eligible undergraduate and master’s degree students from all faculties and fields of study.
Students may participate in the exchange for one semester (6 months) or two semesters (1 year). For the Spring 2027 intake, the semester begins on April 1, 2027.
Under the exchange agreement, selected students will receive a tuition fee waiver from Shizuoka University. However, participants are responsible for other expenses associated with the exchange, including travel, accommodation, meals, insurance, and personal expenses.

Shizuoka University will determine each accepted student's assigned faculty and academic advisor based on factors including the student's academic background, study plan, Japanese language proficiency, and faculty availability.
Language Requirements and Academic Studies
Applicants must have basic communication skills in Japanese or English.
Undergraduate students should note that most undergraduate courses are conducted in Japanese. Students who intend to take regular undergraduate courses in their major are expected to have Japanese language proficiency equivalent to approximately JLPT N2–N1 (CEFR B2–C1) or above in order to understand course content and complete assignments.
Shizuoka University also offers Japanese language and culture courses for international students from beginner to advanced levels.
At the graduate level, some courses in Agriculture, Science, Engineering, and Information Science are offered in English, while courses in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education are generally conducted in Japanese.
Students are strongly advised to review available courses and consult ICDI regarding credit transfer/recognition before participating in the exchange.
Important Conditions
Applicants should note that:

Applicants holding only Japanese nationality are not eligible.

Students who are expected to graduate from Chiang Mai University during the exchange period are not eligible.

Exchange students are generally required to undertake at least 10 hours (7 class periods) of coursework per week to maintain their student residence status in Japan.

Applicants must provide evidence of sufficient financial resources to cover their living expenses during the exchange.

Scholarship information is currently unavailable.

Exchange students are given priority for accommodation at Shizuoka University's International Residence, subject to availability.

Proof of Japanese Language Proficiency, if available, such as a JLPT score/certificate

Motivation Essay in English (maximum 1,000 words) explaining the applicant's motivation for joining the exchange program, academic objectives, expected benefits, and how the experience relates to their future academic or career goals

Any other supporting documents relevant to the applicant's academic background, language ability, or suitability for the exchange program
