1.1.1.1 Legislative Branch
Legislative power is exercised by the National Assembly, which
consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate. No person can
concurrently be a Member of the House of Representatives and a Senator.
The House of Representatives consists of 500 members, 350 of which are
elected on a constituency basis and 150 from party lists, and calculated by

the overall national election . The Senate is comprised of 200 members

but for the initial period of five years, the Senate consists of 250 members .
At present, 194 senators are selected by the National Council for Peace and
Order, six senators are reserved for the armed forces leaders, the supreme
commander, the defense permanent secretary, and the national police chief.
The other fifty senators are selected from the pools of ten professional and
